Upcoming Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 update, The Passing, will see one of the original four L4D survivors die.

"This tagline is 'nobody survives forever'," said writer Chet Faliszek. "In the Left 4 Dead 2 DLC you'll run into Left 4 Dead 1 characters after they've just had this happen and so you'll only interact with three of them."
He explained: "Then after this we'll release Left 4 Dead 1 DLC in which one of you will have to do what happens and one of you will die." When asked if that meant one player would have to sacrifice him or herself, Faliszek replied: "Yes."
"I think fans of the franchise will be really excited that you get to see both sides and actually get to play part of that," he said.
Valve has said that The Passing will be out this month.
